A selection of activities that are happening in parishes
PJ's Have Hit St Nicholas
In October 2010 PJs (puppet Juniors) was set up at St Nicholas Church, Corfe Mullen. There has been an adult team at the church for a couple of years but the children were showing an interest in using them as well. Andy Walker, Children's Worker, set about trying to sort this out. He approached the Sarum St Michael Education Trust in Salisbury with the idea and they gave a grant of £400 to help with the set up costs. This enabled the church to purchase a full set of 14 puppets suitable for use by the children.
Since their arrival they have become a weekly activity as part of the church's Junior Jamboree club, an afterschool club for 5 to 11 year olds, with one or two performances a term to parents. They have also been regularly used at the MADhouse all age services, including a performance in front of Bishop Graham on Palm Sunday.
Future plans for the puppet include storytelling within the local community coffee shop and schools workshops. this will enable more children from the local community to get enjoyment out of the puppets.
If you would like to find out more about the puppets and how to go about setting up yourselves, Andy can be contacted at St Nicholas Parish Office on 01202 602948.
