In the Diocese of Salisbury we see many children and young people in church, in schools or elsewhere in the community. We also meet adults who may be at risk of abuse in our congregations and in our communities. We want our Diocese to model best practice in keeping children and adults safe.

We need to equip over 5000 people who work or volunteer with children or adults with the skills they need to carry out their roles and to understand the importance of recognising abuse and how to deal with it. This basic training was professionally developed with substantial help from the Police so you can be sure it is objective and of high quality.

Every church member who has contact with children, young people or adults who may be at risk in any parish needs to do basic training so we can make our churches safe places where everyone can flourish. This module allows some people a choice between doing face to face training or completing it online. We hope everyone who completes it will benefit from and enjoy the experience.

Thank you for your contribution to the vital work of protecting children and adults who may be at risk. This is all part of God’s mission for his Church and his world.

One very important word of warning – if you have been personally affected by abuse either as a child or an adult then you should not do this training.  We advise people who need to do safeguarding training but who may have personal experience of abuse to speak directly to the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser, Heather Bland, or to book themselves onto face-to-face training where we have people available to act as Listeners.
