Seasons of Giving

is a fresh and creative four week bible study which will get small groups in church talking and thinking about their giving and their discipleship around money. Over the four weeks, with an optional fifth starter session, Seasons blends study of four key money passages from Luke’s gospel with our own experience and the imagery of the seasons in nature by:

Bringing together bible study with creative and visual elements which encourage group members to explore their personal experiences
Stimulating group discussion but also making space for personal reflection in and after the meetings
Talking about giving but aware that giving is influenced by how we manage all our money
Being rooted in the word of God but drawing the theme of the seasons of nature from a remarkable modern story of generosity, ‘The Selfish Giant’ by Oscar Wilde

Giving for Life

is a Church of England initiative that seeks to place issues of giving and generosity firmly within the context of discipleship. Copies of the Giving for Life resources have been distributed to all Parochial Church Councils with the aim of enabling discussion on four ‘key tasks’ for encouraging a generosity of giving in the local church by:

Preaching and teaching regularly about giving in the context of discipleship.
Clearly communicating that giving to the church enables the mission and ministry that flows from it.
Holding some form of annual review of giving.
Sending an annual, personal 'thank you' to regular givers.

There are a large number of resources to support Giving for Life in your parish. You can also get copies of the PCC material (free apart from p&p) from our Stewardship Advisers:

God Loves a Cheerful Giver

is a diocesan resource for worship, prayer and teaching on Christian giving. You can download a copy here. We welcome comments on this resource. Offers of new materials used in parishes - that you are willing to share with others - are particularly welcome!

First Fruits (Canterbury Press 2001)

is an anthology on generosity and giving containing a wide range of material on worship and preaching. It includes a disc containing the complete text in Microsoft Word and Rich text format.

Parish Resources – material for use in preaching, teaching and leading worship, and practical advice on stewardship and giving in your church. This site also contains helpful information for PCC members on their responsibilities as charity trustees and the process for registering with the Charity Commission.
