Music

A wide range of styles of worship, with web links, contacts and workshops.

Music in the Diocese

The Church of England encompasses many styles of liturgy and music, to enable as many as possible to deepen their understanding of God and their relationship with him.

Church services may use the traditional 1662 Prayer Book or the modern version of it, the Book of Common Worship (2000). Informal services often display words on a screen. In each case, the music serves the needs of the service and the worshippers.

19 Deanery Music Contacts Now In Place!
We now have 19 DMCs in place for our deaneries! Being a DMC involves setting up communication links with active parish musicians who will inform them of local events and be provided with information about diocesan projects. Robert Fielding, one of the advisers, says: “It's the personal touch with local knowledge and a burning desire for the ministry of music in our parishes that drives our DMCs in this important role”. Contact your DMC via the Deanery Music Contacts page on this site.
