19 New Priests

by Michael Ford last modified 04 Jul, 2011 11:28 AM

The Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings, will ordain 19 new priests in Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday 2 July at 11am. He will be assisted by many other supporting priests who will also lay hands on the candidates during the ordination prayer.

Dr Kings will join the candidates for part of a retreat at Hilfield Friary in Dorset from Wednesday 29 June to Saturday 2 July. Led by the Archdeacon of Dorset, the Venerable Stephen Waine, this will be a chance for candidates to reflect on the challenges which lie ahead for them.

The 15 women and 4 men serve in parishes across Wiltshire and Dorset, and will be supported by families and friends at the service.

This follows three months as Lay Workers and nine months as Deacons. The candidates have continued to learn new skills and gain experience as they have lived and worked amongst the people whom they serve.

Dr Kings said today, ‘Praying for the Holy Spirit to fill the lives of these 19 people as they are ordained priest is the extraordinary heart of this service. I look forward with joy to welcoming them, their families and parishioners. It is immensely encouraging year after year that so many are prepared to offer their lives to serve God and neighbour in the ordained Ministry.’
