by Michael Ford last modified 24 Nov, 2011 09:23 AM

The Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings, is to lead an unusual Advent Carol service at Sherborne Abbey on Monday evening (28 November) with Jewish and Muslim guest speakers also taking part.

The Rt Revd Dr Graham Kings will be joined by London Liberal Rabbi Danny Rich and Bournemouth academic Dr Hammadi Nait-Charif in Sherborne Abbey, Dorset, at 7.30pm on Monday 28 November 2011.

The service will also feature a reading by acclaimed filmmaker Peter Kosminsky and a well-loved passage from The Messiah sung by Jewish soprano Deborah Fink.

During the service traditional carols will alternate with others using more modern lyrics, reflecting the realities of Bethlehem today.

Dr Kings said: “This innovative Christian advent carol service, with guests from people of other faiths, is open to all. A wonderful way to prepare for the coming of the Christ child.”

Simple refreshments will be served afterwards.
