A Big Thank You to the Queen*Updated

School pupils will design the cover of the Queen's Big Thank You Card

As Supreme Governor of the Church of England, The Queen holds a unique position and has many supporters. The Bishop of Salisbury has decided to send her a 'BIG Thank You Card', which parishioners in the diocese can sign online between the dates of the Queen’s visit to Salisbury and Sherborne (Tuesday 1 May) and the end of the Diamond Jubilee weekend celebrations (Tuesday 5 June).

Schoolchildren can contribute, and there will be a competition to design the cover for the card. The winner will meet the Bishop of Salisbury and help cut the ribbon for the opening of the new Diocesan Education Centre, currently under construction in Avenue Way, Wilton.

The Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam, said, "This is a joyous occasion for the whole country, and our schools and parishes are being innovative in their celebrations. The Queen is an example to us all of dignity, humility and profound Christian faith."

The Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings, said, "We look forward to welcoming Her Majesty and Prince Philip in Sherborne and Salisbury on 1 May, and wish them God's blessing for the future."

Her Majesty the Queen is already one of our longest-reigning British Monarchs after 60 years on the throne, second only to Queen Victoria.

The main Jubilee celebrations will take place during an extended weekend from 2 to 5 June.
