The Bishop of Sherborne baptises a candidate

Four candidates were baptised in the sea and eight were confirmed during this Deanery Confirmation Service.

The service began with a drumming procession from the harbourmaster’s office, and is a highlight of this week’s St Aldhelm’s Pilgrimage in the Bridport area. 150 people were expected to attend: on the day, there were 250.

Dr Kings said before the service, ‘We’ve been welcomed with open arms by the people of Bridport. I baptised in the River Stour last year and am looking forward to baptising candidates in the sea and confirming eight people on the beach. It may be cold, but I’ll have a wetsuit under my robes.’
