Bishop of Salisbury Congratulates Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the Baptism of HRH Prince George

The Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam, has congratulated Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the baptism of HRH Prince George, saying that baptism is the start of a lifelong journey into faith.

Bishop Nicholas said:

“With everyone in the Diocese of Salisbury, I congratulate Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the baptism of HRH Prince George.

“Baptism is the beginning of an important spiritual journey which lasts a lifetime. It symbolises a Christian’s death to sin, and rising into the new and eternal life which Jesus Christ has won for us.

“Prince George’s baptism will be one of around two thousand baptisms in the Church of England this week, mostly of infants, but including a growing number of older children and adults. In it he will join 2 billion Christians around the world of every nationality, colour, and social background in the great family of the Church.”

More information on baptism in the Church of England is available on the national church website.

Prayer for HRH Prince George
We thank almighty God for the gift of new life.
May God the Father, who has received you by baptism into his Church,
pour upon you the riches of his grace,
that within the company of Christ's pilgrim people
you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit,
and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory.
Amen.
