Book the St Petersburg Choir

Would you like to have the St Petersburg Choir perform in your church or school next year?

Well, bookings are being taken for April and May 2020 when the choir returns for another visit to the South West of England.

The Revd Paul Baird, who is helping to organise the tour said:

"The St Petersburg Choir is a large group of professional singers who provide the music for all the daily services across the city. Once a year, under the supervision of the choir’s musical director, small groups of four singers are formed to travel to England to give concert tours and they use the name LYRA even though the personnel varies on each trip.

"Despite the outstanding quality of the voices, Russian wages are very low and these tours help to provide essential additional income to support the families of the singers.

"You may already know LYRA if they have performed in your area in the past, or you may decide that this is the year when you could host the group and provide a concert venue for them. Please consider this and contact me if you would like any further information, or would like to make a firm booking – some of the dates have already been taken!"

LYRA will be available from 27 April to 31 May 2020 and, as well as performing evening concerts, the group is happy to work with local schools and to participate in Anglican acts of worship. Their aims are to entertain and add to people’s understanding of the Russian Orthodox tradition and the particular qualities of Russian Folk Music.
