Does the parish need saving?

by Michael Ford last modified 15 Oct, 2021 10:02 PM

Bishop Andrew is taking part in a lively online debate on Wednesday that will be discussing this question, and checking whether claims that the parish system is being dismantled are really accurate.

The debate is being organised by the Church Times, and joining the Bishop in the online discussion will be Canon Angela Tilby, priest, author and regular on BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day, and the Revd ADA (Azariah) France-Williams, who describes his new book, 'Ghost Ship: Institutional racism and the Church of England', as “an insider account” of the Church’s relationship with its “black and brown” clergy.

Bishop Andrew says:

“I’m glad to be contributing to this online debate about a theme close to my heart. The parish system is one of the glories of the Church of England and while the challenges facing it are, in many places, acute, our Church remains faithful to its rooting in local communities.”

Bishop Andrew’s most recent book is Parish: An Anglican Theology of Place, published by SCM Press.

The debate starts at 7.00pm, and for details and tickets go to
