The Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam, said, “This is a year when we’re asking, ‘What is this Diocese for, and what good does it do?’ These new priests and deacons are part of the answer. Every man and woman ordained over the weekend is committed to doing God’s work in local churches and communities. It’s not just about talk- it’s about action.”

The Revds Richard and Ruth Wyld, a married couple, were ordained deacon on Sunday.

Richard said, “We felt a strong calling to each other to begin with, as equals, and have supported each other’s ministry, again as equals, over the years. It was such a gift to be ordained side by side and it gives us real hope for our future ministry together.”

Ordinations of priests and deacons are annual events marking the culmination of years of training, and are highly significant events for the ordinands themselves, their family and friends, and the parishes they serve.
