Hundreds Visit Festival of Brides

by Michael Ford last modified 08 Sep, 2014 01:34 PM

St Mary’s Church in Lytchett Matravers was delighted to welcome over 300 visitors to their 'Festival of Brides with Flowers' during the summer, including several who wanted to try their hand at bellringing.

Ten wedding dresses dating from the 1930’s to 2012 featured stunning flower arrangements depicting the bouquets carried on their wedding day.

Local businesses sponsored the arrangements, local ladies restored their wedding dresses from their attics and also located dressmaking dummies, some with the help of New Look, who loaned several mannequins. Talented volunteer florists represented the wedding bouquets.

Visitors commented on how interested they were in the stories written about each of the dresses and 'what a lovely way to open up the church'.

Donations for St Mary's Church totalled just over £1000. The money will go towards new heating and sound systems: vital as the church make decisions regarding services, weddings and fellowship through the winter months!
