Giving Hope

The recent Sudans Day proved to be both informative and fun, with praise given to our Diocese for the hope its link brings.

Giving Hope

Canon Ian Woodward speaks at Shaftesbury School

Over 80 people gathered at Shaftesbury School to listen to a range of speakers, including a report on the new Episcopal University from the Revd Dr Stephen Spencer, Director for Theological Education at the Anglican Communion, who thanked the Diocese of Salisbury for our support of Shoki Bible College and the Episcopal University in South Sudan, saying:

“The Diocese of Salisbury Link gives us life and hope in so many ways.”

While the Revd Stephen Dinsmore, Director of SOMA UK spoke of the SOMA vision to be alongside clergy and leaders in mutual fellowship and encouragement through intercession and prayer, with a philosophy of cross-cultural teamwork.

Stephen asked for our prayers for SOMA: “from here we get strength and joy”.

Those at the Day also heard about the Deanery Links, including the vibrant Poole Deanery Link with Wau Diocese in South Sudan.

Feedback comments were very positive:

"What an excellent, informative and enjoyable day!"

"Thank you so much for the organisation and the quality of the speakers at the Sudan Day. It was greatly appreciated to have a coffee on arrival, and the exhibitions were most interesting. The series of talks opened a view of some of the work that people are doing in Sudan and South Sudan as well as the difficult conditions there. The CRESS revelation of how the refugees are being treated in Northern Uganda was so encouraging. Poole Deanery’s work showed us all how much can be done."

"Thank you for a most informative and thought provoking day."
