The first student to complete the new distance learning version of the Diocese of Salisbury’s Certificate in Church Music is based in Kentucky, USA.

Russell Wyndham is the founder and President of the International Piano Teachers’ Guild and the Wyndham Academy of Music.

Course Director Robert Fielding says, “With the opportunity for anyone with Internet access to download this course free of charge, we have provided a useful tool for people to improve how they choose and use music in worship.”

The Certificate gives an introduction to the use of music in church services. Written by church musicians and clergy, it was set up in 2003 and became a distance learning course in 2010. Current students are based in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia.

The course provides basic training for musicians and clergy involved in the weekly selection and delivery of music in church services, as well as the musicians who take part. Anyone with an interest in how music is used in worship, or how to improve its use, can benefit from the course.

Financially supported by The Tindall Trust, the course is free of charge.
