The 2 day process starting tomorrow morning is the culimnation of an extensive and in-depth consultation across the Diocese of Salisbury through the summer and autumn of 2011, and further consultation with the wider Church since the Archbishop of Canterbury approved the request that the See of Ramsbury should be filled.

Key qualities for the role listed by Bishop Holtam for the new Bishop of Ramsbury include imagination, leadership in ministry, and ability to build effective bridges between the Church and the wider community. For more details of the role, click here. [link has expired]

Bishop Holtam said today, ‘We have compiled as full a list as possible of exciting potential future colleagues from within and outside the Diocese of Salisbury, asnd have shortlisted three outstanding priests.'

He continued, 'I will be assisted by diocesan leaders and representatives of the wider church and local community to discern whether one of them should be invited to become part of the life of the Diocese. I hope he will be able to join us by the early autumn.’

If one of the candidates is invited to become Bishop of Ramsbury, the Bishop of Salisbury's recommendation must be submitted to the Prime Minister, who in turn will seek the approval of Her Majesty the Queen. An announcement of an appointment will therefore be some time after Easter.
