When the Revd Claire Maxim arrived as Rector of Ludgershall and Faberstown, she may not have envisaged setting up a café.

Nevertheless, on the first Monday of each month a small group meets at St James’ Church Hall for chat, crafts and a catch-up.

Run in partnership with Tidworth Area Board, Tidworth Community Area Partnership (TCAP) and other organisations, the Ludgershall Memory Café offers people with dementia and their carers a place to make friends, socialise and get advice, support and information.

Mary Cullen from Wiltshire Council and Tony Pickernell from TCAP have both completed Dementia Awareness Training and are now Dementia Champions, offering short workshops and training sessions to help raise awareness of dementia.

The café also benefits from the support of volunteers, including one member of the Wiltshire Good Neighbours scheme.

Mary says, “Tidworth Area Board made a ‘Big Pledge’ to work towards becoming a more dementia aware community area and we are grateful to Revd Claire for hosting the Memory Café, which is already proving to be a much needed group for people living with dementia and their carers.”

Claire adds, "We are very blessed to have a modern church hall, and it seemed to make perfect sense to partner with Tidworth Area Board in order to serve the needs of our community. It's all part of loving and serving our neighbour, as Christ instructed us to do."
