The Village Pump is good news

by Michael Ford last modified 05 Oct, 2021 01:03 PM

The informal 'Village Pump' monthly meeting is a breath of fresh air, as those involved in rural life at grass roots gather for discussion and encouragement.

The Revd Jo Lacy-Smith, based in Dorchester and the Winterbournes, says:

“I have been attending the Village Pump since its conception and have come across most Rural Field Officers through the Village Pump and the online training last winter.

“I found myself drawn to the Village Pump because of the high calibre of the Rural Field Officers. They are confident in themselves, very knowledgeable and are open to new ideas. I always leave feeling, ‘Yes! I can do this’, ‘Yes! This will work’, and they give me confidence to try things.

“As someone who tends to think outside the box and is on the margins of the church, I find my ideas are appreciated rather than seen as being too extreme.

“I appreciated Richard Hancock’s ideas and have enjoyed the small groups, meeting new people.

I have also discovered a lovely LLM who works in my benefice whom I had not met because of lockdown. We have now become firm friends and we work together from time to time which is wonderful and has reduced my isolation.

“Now that things are moving fast in the church I am working in, I am now getting support from my local RFO, which is greatly appreciated!”
