They are spending nearly two weeks there between Sunday 20 January and Friday 1 February, teaching and learning in Yambio and Nzara.

The visit forms part of this year’s celebrations for the 40th Anniversary of the Salisbury-Sudan Link.

Chris Tebbutt [kneeling bottom right, blue shirt] reminisces about how his footballing days are over as he presents the Bishop of Nzara [on the right, red shirt] and his football team with a whole kit and some footballs. The kit was donated by Stacey Dickinson on behalf of Cranborne Football Club, and the footballs by Canford Magna parish.

Chris is slightly worried at the long sleeves, given the 42 degree heat, but was reassured by the bishop that it did at times fall to a much chillier 27 degrees  in the cool season!

Yambio: some of the motorcycles and bicycles purchased with generous gifts from the Deanery. The man in the white shirt is the new caretaker Bishop Justin. Things can move very fast if you talk to the right person!

Chris says:

Vanessa and I have just finished our first three day seminar on The Lord's Prayer which we've thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a lot about Yambio and the work of the churches here. Sheila Soper is staying on in Karika for a few days, visiting families from her previous trips here and then joining us on Monday.

Today (Friday) we moved on to Nzara (which has internet connection, hence this note) and we start on Monday with The Lord's Prayer for our remaining three days. Vanessa and I will be in the Cathedral on Sunday and we hope to visit some of the surrounding parishes over the weekend.

It is very cold in Wimborne Deanery, I understand, but it is very hot here. I have a nice room rather than the very basic one in Yambio which I'm sharing with a very large spider called Boris and a very nice lizard Lenny which would like Boris for supper. I'm sure you'd like to swap places!
