‘Let Us Talk’ results to be discussed at Synod

Groups in parishes and deaneries have discussed the personality and character of the diocese, and what it means to be ‘local church’ across Dorset and Wiltshire, over the last six months. The Bishop of Salisbury received nearly 200 responses under the banner of ‘Let Us Talk’ and results will be presented at the Diocesan Synod meeting on Thursday 13 June in St Paul’s Salisbury (6.30pm).

Hundreds gathered at Salisbury Cathedral on Sunday for a spectacular service celebrating 40 years of the Salisbury-Sudan Link. Those attending included two bishops from the Diocese of Salisbury, ten from Sudan and South Sudan together with Provincial Secretary John Augustino, civic dignitaries and other overseas visitors.

The Bishop of Salisbury writes today that "The possibility of 'gay marriage' does not detract from heterosexual marriage unless we think that homosexuality is a choice rather than the given identity of a minority of people. Indeed the development of marriage for same sex couples is a very strong endorsement of the institution of marriage."
