A look around the diocese this week

Lent and Easter is a vital part of our Christian calendar, celebrated and observed world-wide As such, we’ve taken a look around our own diocese at some of the services and events of Holy Week. 


King Charles to give Maundy money to recipients from Dorchester and Salisbury

King Charles will give out his first Maundy money today to 74 men and 74 women, including two people from the Diocese of Salisbury who have made significant contributions to the lives of their communities and their churches. 


Bishop Stephen's Chrism Eucharist sermon at Salisbury Cathedral

Bishop Stephen preached at the Chrism Eucharist on Thursday of Holy Week, 6 April 2023, at Salisbury Cathedral. In his address for all clergy and licensed lay ministers in the diocese, he said: "If we but work together, if we live faithfully, if we share burdens, if we listen and if we love above anything else, then you, each one of you, is the oil of gladness." Holy Week reflections

This week in our Holy Week reflection series, we have been encouraged to remember the hope and reconciliation that is found in the image of the cross. We were also asked to think about what Holy Week is all about and which of the twelve disciples we best relate to. Watch them here.

Clergy day in Jersey

On 27 March, clergy from Jersey came together for their annual Clergy Conference. Revd Beverley Sproats, St John's, Jersey shares this reflection.


St. Aldhelm: An exciting day of music, theatre, crafts and worship!

St. Aldhelm is important to us for a number of reasons. Firstly, he is the only true English saint. Secondly, he was the first Bishop of Sherborne. And thirdly, he was commended by King Alfred for taking Christianity out of buildings and back to the people. As a Saint, he was a poet, musician, riddle-writer, miracle worker, church builder, and much, much more.  


A musical visit to Guernsey

The recent union of the two Channel Island deaneries to the Diocese of Salisbury is beginning to bear fruit. Guernsey is delighted to welcome the Salisbury Cathedral Choir to the deanery this week, and wish them well on their onwards travels to Jersey. 


Calne St Mary, Clock and Bells restoration project update

Last year we shared Calne St Mary, Clock and Bells restoration project. We were pleased to report that the five year project is soon to be complete, but not without help from 5th Battalion REME, who offered to assist with moving large beams, weighing over 370 kilogram, into the tower.  


Biker Church

Motorcycle instructor and rider, Michael Donnell has created a new regular Christian meeting called "Lazarus Biker Church".  The inspiration for this newly formed church came from wanting to find a place for those with an interest in faith and motorbikes to meet, share fellowship and pray together.
