Update Service Information

If someone is on the update service

(whether for Diocese certificate or not),


  •  Provided the PSO sees the original certificate to confirm the level of check
  • And the level of check is equal to and greater than the DBS we need for their Salisbury Diocesan role (including whether it’s a salaried or volunteer check i.e. you cannot use a volunteer check for a salaried role)

 That the PSO can add the person to the microsite as required, initialise a check recording the actual level of the check, do the online check with the Government update service and assuming it reports no issue, record the original certificate number and the date that they did their check with said government website, and renewal henceforth using this certificate REGARDLESS of the body who did the original DBS.


Please use the Update service for volunteer roles

We do NOT recommend this service for salaried roles where you have to pay £13 per year (i.e. £65 for 5 years compare to DBS cost of £44.79)   

However for we DO recommend it for Volunteers where the service is FREE as it saves you doing a future DBS at the same level in 5 years time. Be aware however, that if you need a higher check you would still need a new application.


How does a volunteer apply for the Update Service?

To register to have your disclosure added to the update Service you must do this WITHIN 30 days of your DBS disclosure either online, by email or by phoning the DBS service

Do please ensure that the Diocese Safeguarding department or your local Parish Safeguarding officer is aware you have registered with this service so that it can be added to your record. In order to process the update they will need the DBS certificate number, your Surname and your DOB.
