Bennett Bags Sarum Gold

As the cross country season comes to an end, Sarum Academy are celebrating a gold medal and two pupils gaining county trials.

Bennett Bags Sarum Gold

A triumphant Jack Bennett

Jack Bennett in Year 9 dominated the junior boys Salisbury Cross Country event from the first race of the year. Starting at Amesbury football ground in October, Jack raced home with an impressive 35 seconds between him and the second place runner. Two weeks later Bennett again powered home on Hudson’s Field with another first place finish.

At the same event, Year 12 pupil Antonia Zinkler, in only her second-ever cross country event, finished in the top three of the senior girls.

By race three Bennett was in a confident mood, but had to fight off a first lap battle before again winning the race, leaving him with one final race.

Bennett again started slowly, waiting until the last downward stretch over the Laverstock Downs to run past three runners and finish with a sprint. There were big celebrations on the line and a special hug from mum as the whole Sarum Academy team were there to congratulate Jack and then watch him collect his medal.

“We now look forward to Jack competing for Wiltshire and wish him all the best. Sarum would also like to congratulate Antonia Zinkler for her efforts this season and hope she qualifies for the county team too” commented Mark Haysom, PE Team Leader.
