Bishop Opens New Swanage School

by Michael Ford last modified 21 Jan, 2015 10:43 AM

The Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings, recently dedicated St Marks' CE VA Primary School in Swanage, Dorset. Here is a brief report.

A special service was held in school, beginning with thanks from Headteacher Mrs Jones and Chair of Governors Marion Marchant. The children read passages from the Bible, read their own prayers and sang beautifully as a whole school and as a choir.

The formal dedication by Bishop Graham unveiled and blessed the new school stone, time capsule and the new buildings. Bishop Graham held an open question and answer session with the children, which - to the relief of all staff - went smoothly.

The oldest living pupil of St Mark's, Mrs Irene Makin, along with current youngest pupil Sean, were photographed with the time capsule. The photo will be buried, along with work by children, the school prospectus and other important documents, once the school's sensory trail is completed.
