Celebrations at Joint RC-CE School

Bishops look on as the cake is cut by all four Headteachers

In 1991 St Edward’s RC School became a joint Roman Catholic and Church of England School.

In 1993, at a special service in St Mary’s the Bishop of Plymouth, Rt Revd Christopher Budd and the Bishop of Salisbury, Rt Revd John Baker signed the special Covenant Prayer that had been written to celebrate the Joint Church School’s foundation.

During this 50th year of the School and 20th year since the original covenant was signed we have rededicated ourselves to the same covenant in a service that was attended by guests including all four Headteachers past and present, and the Bishop of Plymouth, Rt Revd Mark O’Toole and Bishop of Sherborne, Rt Revd Dr Graham Kings.

For the occasion, a copy of the original Covenant was made and signed by the two Bishops and the staff were recommissioned by the Bishops.

A beautiful celebration cake had been made for the occasion and was cut at the reception which followed the service.
