Instagram Worship Account Launched

by Emma Waters last modified 26 Jun, 2020 11:49 PM

School Leaders of collective worship were the first to hear of a new diocesan Instagram account which will celebrate the work of schools and highlight spirituality and worship.

Whilst it has not been possible to run professional development in person, the Diocesan Board of Education has taken up the opportunities that technology has provided and is delivering some training online.

Last week, colleagues who lead worship in their schools met via Zoom to learn about ways that schools and clergy have been developing their practice during times of physical distancing. After watching examples where worship has been filmed and shared in a video, colleagues discussed how to involve children and young people more either at home, in parish worship, or at school.

During the session the DBE launched its new Instagram account @sdbeworship and encouraged schools to follow and share their posts - especially those sharing practice relating to spirituality, worship and school vision and values.

Later during worship training, colleagues had the opportunity to explore some of the Faith at Home Church of England resources and found the 'breakout group' conversation and chat facility very useful to discuss how to further develop worship so that it is invitational, inspiring and inclusive.

Afterwards, the 'chat' which was full of useful links to explore and trial, was shared with those attending. .

Catherine Wallace, the worship lead at Bishops Cannings CE Primary School said in a follow-up email, 'Thank you for your Collective Worship Zoom meeting last week - always so informative and full of good encouraging ideas.'

She shared the work the school has done on setting up a physically distanced set of prayer activities in a prayer space which will feature in our School News and Working Together articles soon. In the meantime, tag the DBE account on Instagram or email in your prayer space ideas or worship developments; we are always keen to share in your ideas.
