Coldstream Guards put pupils through their paces

Pupils’ endurance and tenacity were tested to the limit when they underwent a training session with Her Majesty the Queen’s personal troops The Coldstream Guards. The oldest regiment in the British Army worked with pupils from Year 7, 8 and 9, encouraging them to push themselves mentally and physically.

Pupils engaged with a range of drills and activities, supported by Sgt Lee Markel and his team of guards. The day was a huge success with pupils and a mother of a Year 9 pupil later tweeted that her son had loved the PT session and said “must do it again.”

Sgt Markel was impressed he was with all of the pupils, particularly Year 9, who were “One of the best groups I’ve had the pleasure to work with in the UK.” High praise indeed!

Freya commented, “I felt nervous before doing it because I’ve never cycled so far before, but once I started I thought ‘I CAN DO THIS!’

“The hardest bit was a massive hill that lasted for about 3 miles, but it was all worth it when I reached the end and felt proud because I’d proved to myself I could do it!”

Freya raised over £50 for Sport Relief and hopes to do more sponsored bike rides in the future.

Jacob and Olivia received a huge round of applause from the packed auditorium, and encouraging comments from the professional musicians.

Miss Hannah Murphy, Sarum Academy’s Curriculum Team Leader for Performing Arts commented, “We are very proud of our pupils for performing so well in such a prestigious event, and we would like to express our thanks to Justin Pearson and Anne Roberts for providing them with such an amazing opportunity.”
