by Michael Ford — last modified 29 Aug, 2014 02:50 PM

Hundreds of Year Six pupils from across Dorset and Wiltshire gathered for four days at Salisbury Cathedral to celebrate the move to secondary school and to participate in Olympics-themed activities and services.

Workshops included making Olympic rings from willow and fabric, making colourful torches, and even physical workouts.

Visitors included the Bishop of Sherborne, Dr Graham Kings; former Olympians Sheila Burnett and James Templar; and one of the 2012 Olympic Torchbearers for Calne, Grace Henney.

Director of Outreach and Learning Sarah Rickett said, “We have a strong commitment to Education here at the Cathedral, and this collaboration has been a great success. Many Olympic values are shared with Christianity, and I am sure that a number of children have had their eyes opened to this.”
