Strictly Great Ideas for a Nativity

by Michael Ford last modified 18 Jan, 2017 04:08 PM

Looking for ideas for your school nativity? Buckland Newton’s Headteacher Nicki Ralph may be able to help...

“In December 2016, my Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 took part in a new nativity play with a difference. It was a traditional nativity set against a background of Strictly Come Dancing.

“As they arrived in Bethlehem, each group performed a different dance, from Line Dancing to Rumba to Morris Dancing. They were scored by a panel consisting of the Inn Keeper's wife, the Donkey and Caesar.

“It was great fun with lovely songs and music. We performed to packed audiences and the true meaning of Christmas was very real indeed. It was called ‘Lights. Camera. Action - Strictly the Nativity!'”

Parents and governors were effusive. Comments included:

"Thoroughly enjoyed it. The best nativity Play we have ever seen and we have seen a few!"

"Great fun, such a lovely original Nativity."

"I haven't enjoyed myself so much in a long time! Grinning from ear to ear with the excitement and enthusiasm shown by the cast and the audience. Loved all the dancing and singing and how well the children delivered their lines. Thank you so much!"

"What a wonderful performance the children gave of a 'different take on the traditional Nativity story. It was full of humour but did not distract from the traditional values of Christianity."

"It was really fantastic! Len would be proud of you all!"
