Distinctive and Effective Worship Header

‘Transforming Lives’ is our vision and strategic plan for our work in this core area. It was developed over a number of months with advisers, head teachers and members of the Cathedral Education service. Through our core and bespoke training opportunities we seek to work with you to develop excellence in the delivery of Collective Worship in all phases of Primary and Secondary education.

We offer the following bespoke training opportunities:

Developing Reflective Collective Worship

  • A practical workshop with an opportunity to consider the educational importance of reflection; explore a range of models; consider how you might adopt, develop, and adapt such models for your own school contex

Creative approaches to prayer and reflection

  • A practical session which will explore the centrality of prayer and reflection within a church school context. The focus will be on different aspects of prayer within the Christian tradition and we will explore a range of reflective and creative approaches

Collective Worship: what the inspector is looking for

  • A bespoke version of the centrally offered course. This course will develop a strong understanding of the collective worship section of the SIAMS framework. This will be a highly practical session as we conduct a paper mock inspection of a church school. You will have the opportunity to share ideas and discussion and look at resources.

Involving pupils in leading and evaluating Collective Worship

  • Using the ‘Lighting the Candle’ resource as a starting point we will consider the importance of involving pupils in the leading and evaluating of collective worship and explore practical ways to facilitate this.

Leading and delivering high quality Collective Worship  - policy and practice

  • A course to consider the legal requirements on schools in terms of collective worship; to consider the implications in terms of policy and practice; to explore a range of creative and reflective approaches and to look at current resources.  This bespoke work can be undertaken via twilight staff training, TDD, with individual or clusters of schools / academies. Time can also be purchased for one to one meeting time with the Collective Worship co-ordinator or with a wider leadership team including governors.
