Anglican Heritage Salisbury is a new National Lottery Heritage Fund-funded project, scoping solutions to help heritage churches and the communities looking after them.
Here in the Diocese of Salisbury, 86% of our open churches are listed buildings; that means there are 517 churches which require special care and attention while still being open as places of worship. It is a blessing to have so many churches with centuries of stories to tell, but it can sometimes feel like a burden as well as a blessing.
That’s where Anglican Heritage Salisbury comes in – we want to better understand what it’s like for congregations and communities taking care of heritage churches, so that we can hopefully provide support and solutions.
Our aims are:
· To better understand the problems facing communities caring for heritage churches in the Diocese of Salisbury
· To identify potential options to support communities caring for heritage churches
· To empower communities to use heritage for engagement, through activities such as Heritage Open Days
During this initial scoping phase, running until 2027, we are trying to build up a picture of the churches and communities in our Diocese, and we’d love to hear from you!
We are attending events like the Buildings Team Drop-In Days, Volunteers Day, and Clergy Day, where you can talk to us. You can also contact us via our details below:
