Reverend Katharine Robinson has been appointed as the Racial Justice Officer for the Diocese of Salisbury, a National Church-funded role. Katharine may already be known to you through her previous role in the Diocesan Governance Team, which she has held since 2022. She has played an active role in the Diocesan Racial Justice Working Group since 2023. Katharine is also an ordained Priest and completed an MA at Sarum College, where her dissertation focused on an area of racial justice.
In this new role, Katharine will focus on supporting work for racial justice across the diocese in different ways. This will include working closely with the vocations team to encourage diverse vocations, supporting diocesan networks and leaders, and offering support to parishes. She is also happy to be invited to speak in church services about issues of justice.
The role has been funded by the national church as part of its commitment to Racial Justice.
Commenting on her appointment, Katharine said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to step into this role. Racial justice is part of our calling as Christians to advocate for the inclusion of all, regardless of ethnicity or race. We are all created in God’s image, as highlighted in Genesis 1:27, and are therefore accepted and loved just as we are. Additionally, churches are called to build the kingdom of God and communities which reflect the diversity of God’s creation.”
Over the past three years, the Racial Justice Working Group has sought opportunities to engage with parishes about working for justice across the diocese. This has included setting up the Justice Network to support people in learning more about working for justice by offering opportunities to listen to speakers and reflect together on work locally.
Katharine says: “I am looking forward to continuing and building upon the work that has already begun. From my own experience as a parish priest, I know it can be difficult to begin conversations about racial justice in our context.
