The licensing of four new lay ministers

On Saturday 17 September, four new lay ministers were licensed at Salisbury Cathedral, with Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMs) from across the diocese gather to celebrate this occasion and to renew their own commitment to this valuable ministry.

Bishop Karen writes:

"It was a joy to welcome our Licensed Lay Ministers back to the Cathedral after a gap of three years, to celebrate their ministry and to celebrate the new ministry of the four lay ministers who were licensed.

"The service was followed by lunch and an annual gathering, giving a chance for LLMs to meet together from across the diocese, and to discuss ministry matters.  We were delighted to be joined by Karen Hutchinson, Diocesan Lay Ministry Development Officer who preached at the service and in the afternoon gave an outline of her work in supporting lay ministry.

"LLMs now minister in a variety of settings, including chaplaincy, and the opportunity to train online and through residentials at Sarum College, gives those called to lay ministry the skills and theology necessary to be equipped to serve the church of today and the future.

"It is a ministry we are wanting to encourage.  Please join me in praying for Mandy, Debby, Georgie and Peter who were licensed and for the development of this ministry in its broadest sense and in its diversity of contexts"
