P/T Pastoral Assistant - Salisbury

by Michael Ford last modified 04 Feb, 2021 03:46 PM expired

The Trustees of St Nicholas' Hospital invite applications from clergy or laity for a Part Time Pastoral Assistant to the Community of St Nicholas.

This is a part-time position requiring the post-holder to reside in accommodation provided by the Hospital during periods when the Master is on holiday, or undertaking spiritual refreshment, or enjoying contractual rest periods. This part-time post covers 110 days per year.

The Master is entitled to 6 weeks' holiday (no more than 2 of which are to be taken consecutively), together with public holidays (other than religious festivals) and a 5-day period of spiritual refreshment. The Master’s rest periods are 24 hours every 7 days, extended to 48 hours once a month.

This post is ideally suited to a recently retired Church of England priest, or someone engaged in active lay ministry; it may be of interest to anyone considering a vocation to ministry in the Church of England. The pastoral nature of the post means that the successful applicant should live in, or near, Salisbury.

The initial term will be for a year following a 3-month probationary period, which term may be renewed at the Trustees’ discretion. The salary will be 30% of the stipend for a parochial incumbent in Salisbury Diocese (currently £8,100 per annum).

St Nicholas' Hospital is a pastoral community of some 30 residents of limited means in 24 self-contained flats within the grounds of the Hospital, which was founded in 1215, and has its own chapel with a daily act of worship.

Further information and an Application Form can be obtained from or by post to Clive Gutteridge, St Nicholas Hospital, St Nicholas Road, Salisbury, SP1 2SW. The preferred method of communication is by email.

Closing Date: 4th March 2021
Interview Date: 25th March 2021
The successful applicant will be required to satisfy DBS requirements.
