Sometimes groups of Travellers will stop for a few days in a lay-by, on a piece of wasteground, or in a public park, occasionally near a church.
Many groups will appreciate a visit from a church member. If you are a minister, then wear a dog collar or a symbol of your ministry. If you are a lay person, then perhaps wear a cross.
- Introduce yourself and your church
- Ask if there is anything practical you can do; for example, people might need help reading documents or registering with a doctor
- People might ask for water
- Ask if they’d like you to pray with them
- If you are a minister, you might be asked to bless a trailer
- If you are invited in for a cup of tea always say yes!
