Jo Churchill, and Sara Jacson, of Salisbury Diocese, have been awarded scrollsas new Freemen of the Borough of Shaftesbury.
This is the highest honour that a council can bestow upon an individual, and it is awarded to acknowledge the significant contribution made to a borough. It is proposed by a Town Councillor and agreed by the whole Council.
Jo Churchill, churchwarden, is a fundraiser and encourager of many. She saw the tower of old Trinity Church made safe, and reordered St John’s church in Enmore Green with imagination, creating a welcoming building.
Sara Jacson, who was given the St Aldhelm Cross in 2009 by Bishop David Stancliffe, has spent years working for people on the edge – young people in difficulty, women seeking refuge from domestic violence, refugees coming to live in the town, as well as representing the churches on Shaftesbury Abbey Board of Trustees. She led recent fundraising to restore the East Window at St James church – Christ in Majesty.
