The Bishop’s Fete is back!

Update on 1 September: We regret to inform you that one of the camels has passed away and that the other two are fretting and will not be able to appear at the fete this year. We apologies for any inconvenienced caused. The fete will be running as usual, with fun to be had by all.

The Bishop’s fete has become a firm fixture in the diocesan calendar, with the Bishop heralding it as ‘Salisbury’s great family day out’. In typical fete style, there will be a popular array of stalls; and, as ever, visitors will have a chance to get up close to camels!

The fete, in aid of the Diocese of Salisbury Medical Link, will be held on the 4 September in the grounds of the Cathedral School in the Cathedral Close, from 2pm to 5pm.

The money raised at the fete will help the Medical Link continue to provide treatment for the people of Sudan and South Sudan, who suffer from high levels of malaria, pneumonia and other water-related diseases.

South Sudan is attempting to emerge from decades of civil war and inter-border disputes. Damaged infrastructure, exacerbated by a severe drought, hinders the country’s progress. The Medical Link funds go entirely to supplying medicines, and training health workers such as lab technicians, nurses and midwives. In such a large country, it is difficult to travel without bus services. Many people walk half a day or are put on the back of a motorcycle to get medical help at clinics supported by the Anglican Church.

So, not only do you get to enjoy a great afternoon out in beautiful surroundings, but you also help save lives.

The popular array of stalls will be selling bric-a-brac, books, plants, homemade cakes, preserves and much more. Of course the excellent teas and cakes will be available to the accompaniment of the Amesbury Town Band and the Navy Larks Choir. There will also be games, a tombola and a raffle.

Come join us for an afternoon of fun at the Cathedral School, Salisbury and help raise money for a very worthy cause.
