Revd Canon Jonathan Triffitt has been appointed as the interim Dean of Bradford, his home city, leading the Cathedral and city’s ministry.
Jonathan has served in roles across the Diocese of Salisbury, in both Wiltshire and Dorset, for more than 20 years. He served in parishes in Blandford, Devizes and Sherborne, before moving six years ago to become the Director of Ministry and Mission for the Diocese. He is also a canon of Salisbury Cathedral.
He played a significant role in the development of the diocesan vision and strategy, and in the successful application last year to the national Church for over £5 million to invest in support to local churches.
Bishop Stephen said: “Bradford’s gain is Salisbury’s loss. I am however delighted for Jonathan and for Bradford Cathedral as he leaves us to become Dean. Jonathan will bring his energy and priestly professionalism to a demanding role. We have truly valued his leadership of mission and ministry, not least the recent successful bid for national missional funding. I shall also miss Jonathan’s personal support and encouragement. He has been a blessing here and I know that, under God, that will continue in his beloved Bradford.”
Jonathan said: “It has been a joy and a privilege to serve the Diocese of Salisbury over the past 20 years, sharing in mission and ministry across Dorset and Wiltshire in a variety of contexts, roles and responsibilities. I am deeply grateful to the many colleagues, clergy and lay leaders who have encouraged, shaped and supported me during this time, and whose generosity and faithfulness have prepared me to respond to God’s call to this next season of ministry, as I take up the role of Interim Dean of Bradford.
“I leave the Diocese at an exciting moment and with a strong sense of hope for its future. I very much look forward to hearing the continuing stories of local communities working together in mission, as together they seek to make Jesus known so that all may flourish and grow.”
Jonathan is married to Joanne, who worked as the Community Development Co-ordinator for the Mothers Union in the Diocese between 2010 - 2017. They have two grown up children. Jonathan and Joanne will move to Bradford in early March ahead of taking up his new role.
