Year 4 Leavers’: Planet Heroes!

On Friday 8th July Wimborne Minster welcomed over 160 Year 4 children from local First Schools to a Leavers’ Service celebrating the Christian values they have learned, and will take with them as they move into new schools, especially care for God’s Creation.

The members of RISE Theatre, who had also led the Year 6 Leavers’ services in the Cathedral, involved everyone in an energetic interactive presentation of ‘God’s Planet’ in which a boy is taken through outer space and under water to see how humans are damaging the planet and learn how we can help improve matters. Lively songs and actions made the Minster rock with sound, and by contrast, the quiet moments of prayer and reflection brought home the message that this is a task we can only tackle with God’s help and power. The children prepared by making ‘Planet Hero’ badges, banners and colourful fish and jellyfish, using recycled plastics for some of their models, and they brought pledges for the future care of the environment.

The service was enjoyed by children, school staff, parents, carers, DBE representatives and local clergy. Thanks go to SDBE, RISE Theatre, Minster clergy, staff and volunteers for making it possible.
