Chaplains come alongside a wide spectrum of people, who are within an ever-increasing variety of contexts.

Faithful witnesses and ambassadors of Christ, lay and ordained, some paid, some voluntary, who embody an understanding of mission which is about recognising God at work in the world and joining in.

The work of Chaplaincy continues to grow and flourish within the diocese. From hospitals, care homes, the emergency services, the law courts, police, the deaf and hard of hearing community, the military, schools, university, prisons, the farming and agricultural community, LGBTQIA+ Community, town centres and shops, charities, businesses and more!

Explore more about Chaplaincy

The work of Chaplaincy is a ministry that is weaved into many aspects of church and community life. For some, it may be the only contact or connection that some people have with ‘Church’.

Chaplaincy Forum

In this diocese, we seek to support a variety of Chaplains, who are exercising a vital ministry. The Chaplaincy Forum brings together those who co-ordinate chaplaincy in their particular sector. The Forum is co-ordinated by The Bishop of Sherborne.
Part-Time, Volunteer, Lay Chaplaincy Hub

Open to anyone who has a Chaplaincy role, whether lay or ordained, the hub meets three to four times a year and is an opportunity to journey alongside fellow Chaplains from a wide variety of contexts to support and learn from each other.

The Hub is coordinated by our Lay Ministry Development Officer and Ministry for Mission (M4M) Resource Officer.
